Centro Indigena de Capitacion
Integral or the Center for Indigenous Training: (CIDECI)
Located in San Cristobal de las Casas, the Center
for Indigenous Training offers a wide variety of educational
services for the indigenous population of Chiapas. CIDECI
is open to people who are sponsored by a community organization,
such as a church, as someone who would benefit from training
in a specific trade, and who would then return to the community
to assist in creating sustainable local economies. CIDECI
has been a vital organization during the last ten years in
providing an alternative to the violence and increasing migration
out of Chiapas.
CIDECI: Curriculum Center for
Indigenous Training
Young people who come to the Center for Indigenous
Training are taught for a period of 9 months in specific trades
of their choice. Students may learn a full range of skills
from woodworking to computer operation. Other opportunities
include: farming, baking, driving/mechanics, cooking, electronics,
welding/metalworking, music, weaving, sewing, typing, and
basic health instruction. Students come to CIDECI for periods
of time and when living on the campus follow basic rules of
the school, including the contribution to assisting with the
growing of the campus food. |
